This year I decided to add a new medium to my artwork ArtResin,  .  I've enjoyed working with it and will continue to use it as I find it adds value to my work and gives it a very polished look.  If you plan on trying resin, I have a few tips for you that will save you some time. 

First, use painters tape and cover the back of the wood panel.  Then, I prepared my image by using an archival adhesive to attach it to my wood panel.  I like to add texture and embellish with a little bit of acrylic.

Next, I gather all the items needed to begin the process.  (Gloves, Resin, spatula, Hardener, torch, measuring cup, toothpicks, and something to lift your art piece off the counter.) 

I then mix equal parts of resin and hardener for at least 3 minutes.  When it comes time to pour, I like to do my edges first.  I smear the resin on with my fingers until the edges are completely covered.  I have found if I let it just drip down the sides and then rub it in, I end up missing spots and have to redo the whole thing. 

When all the edges are covered, I then place the image on cups or shot glasses to balance it off the ground. Then the fun begins.

I like to use a spatula to move the resin around.  Make sure everything is covered, especially the corners and edges or you'll end up doing the

whole piece over again. 

Once you're done, you'll need to use a torch to pop the bubbles. Look at it one last time and pick dust and hair that might have fallen into the piece.

Lastly, you will cover the entire piece for 24 hours. When 24 hours is up, it will be safe to take the painters tape off the back.  Put the art piece in a safe place for another 48 hours.  

Personally, I love using this particular brand of resin.  Its nontoxic and I can use it inside the house. The best reason of all is it makes my artwork look very polished and have had many compliments. 

TIP: 1-Don't try and wash resin off your hands.  The best way to get most of it off is to use a dry paper towel.

       2-Spray water around the area you'll be working in, this really helps keep dust at bay.  Make sure you're windows are closed too.
